Investing in dental coaching or consulting can be a great investment. But what if you could get top tips from the best dental consultants in the industry all in one place? You can.
In the Delivering WOW Dental Hangout community, Anissa Holmes asked the dental consultants to share their top tips for dentists and dental professionals. Dozens of consultants weighed in and everyone in the group benefitted. Here are the top tips those consultants shared.
Hire the right people and help them succeed.
There is an old saying in business that it is much easier to hire motivated people than to try to motivate people who are not naturally motivated.
This was a common theme in the results. Many people reminded each other of the importance of hiring the right people, putting them in the right roles, having proper training and onboarding, and keeping everyone accountable.
When the right people are in the right roles with the right accountability, everyone wins.
Set clear goals.
Setting clear, defined, and measurable goals for the practice and each team member keeps everyone focused. Make sure everyone has goals that are consistent with each other and the practice as a whole. That will keep everyone moving in the same direction and put purpose behind their work.
Become a better leader.
Everyone in the practice can improve results by improving their leadership skills. With busy practices, it is easy to get preoccupied with everyday challenges. But everyone in the practice must work on consistently improving their leadership.
You can do this by being honest, ethical, and leading by example. Act how you want others around you to act. The way you act will do much more to influence the practice than what you say.
Consistently work to improve communication.
The core of most problems in business will almost always involve miscommunication. For example, a leader might ask a team member to organize patient files.
If the leader does not explain how she wants them organized, the team member might have no idea what the leader really wanted. Did she want it organized in alphabetical order? That might seem like the logical assumption. But what if she wanted it organized based on the date of the patients’ last visits? What if she wanted it organized based on whether patients have unscheduled treatments?
The best dental practices consistently work to improve communication. In this situation, the team member would recognize the ambiguity in the request and ask how the practice leader wanted the files organized.
Bond with patients and ask for reviews and referrals.
Reviews and referrals are two of the easiest ways to grow your patient count. If you are just going through the motions when patients come in, you are leaving tremendous potential on the table.
These days, many patients will look for reviews before making an appointment. Make sure your patients will happily share great things about your practice. Do not be afraid to ask for reviews because most patients will not take the initiative if you don’t bring it up.
The same is true with referrals. Many patients would happily refer you to their friends and family, but it is not at the top of their mind. You can immediately boost referrals by simply asking.
Consistently earning positive online reviews and a steady flow of patient referrals can transform a practice fast.
Stay focused on your practice vision.
If you do not have a vision for your practice, set one today. If you do, change, drop, delete, and fire anyone and anything that does not fit into your vision. Replace them with things that are more closely aligned with where you want to go as a practice.
